One of the most popular treatments out there, veneers are thin sheets of high-quality porcelain (occasionally composite resin is used), used to correct discoloured, cracked, widely spaced and decaying teeth.

Although minimally invasive, veneers are a permanent treatment option and cannot be reversed.

What are veneers?

Veneers can be likened to how a false nail fits over the top of a real nail. A custom treatment, they are directly bonded to your tooth with an adhesive that fixes the veneer solidly in place. Your dentist will create the veneer tailored to your smile, taking your individual tooth structure and features such as eye, hair and skin colour into account.

Your dentist will carry out a comprehensive oral care assessment to see if veneers are a suitable treatment option for you. It is important for your oral health to be optimal before veneers are placed on your teeth.

What can I expect from treatment?

Veneer treatment requires at least two visits. During your first visit, we will carefully remove a tiny amount of your tooth’s surface to create space for the porcelain shell to fit over the top of your existing tooth, Following this, we will take impressions (moulds) of your teeth for the dental technician to use as a foundation to create your bespoke unique veneer. We may place a temporary restoration over your tooth between appointments and remove this once you return to have your hand-crafted veneer bonded. Any fine-tuning will be done once the veneer has been bonded over the top of the tooth you’re having treated.

Once a veneer has been fitted it is crucial to ensure optimal oral hygiene is maintained as this increases the longevity of your veneer. Moreover, it is important to remember that biting down on very hard food or habits such as nail-biting or chewing on a pen can cause damage to your veneers.
