Healthy smiles start young, which is why dental care for children is so important.

Children’s dentistry mainly focuses on regular check-up appointments and prevention, although if any problems arise outside of their check-ups, we can address these and treat them accordingly. Your dentist will recommend a tailored oral care regime for your child, which includes how often they should attend for their dental check-up, this is usually every 3 or 6 months.

Why is dental care for children so important?

Unfortunately, tooth extraction is the most common hospital procedure in six to ten-year- olds and nearly half of all young children in England have some degree of tooth decay.

With this in mind, making sure your child is seeing the dentist for routine check-ups is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums as they grow up. Here at Family Dental Care Centre, we understand that children can find visiting the dentist distressing. From the moment you enter the practice, our staff will do everything they can to make your child feel at ease. We believe it’s important for children to have a positive association with the dentist so that caring for their teeth becomes second nature in later life and not a source of anxiety.

What does children’s dentistry encompass?

We recommend that you bring your child to visit us routinely, at intervals advised by your dentist. Regular check-ups are especially important for educating your child about what it means to care for their teeth. It is so important for your child that you do routinely bring them for their dental check-ups. We try to find ways to connect with children that will spark enthusiasm about dental care. If they’re interested in their own dental care, they’re more likely to become independent with their dental routine more quickly than if it is presented as a chore.

What are the benefits of bringing your child in for regular check-ups?

  • Preventative. Address problems early and avoid the need for more serious (and possibly costly) intervention later in your child’s life.
  • Inspire confidence and enthusiasm about their smile and teeth.
  • Regularly reinforce the importance of looking after their teeth as they go through the different phases of growing up.
